The Ananti Penthouse Haeundae and Hilton Busan, designed by SKM Architects, are the core accomodations facilities of the ‘East Busan Tourist Complex’, which is the plan of the City of Busan to create a tourist landmark. Ananti Penthouse is made up with 353m² penthouses, and Hiton Busan is made up with over 56m² sweet rooms, which are twice the size of most first class hotels. It features staircase rooms, which allows the guests to view the ocean from a spacious exterior terrace.
Since the construction of the hotel and resort began at the beginning of 2015, many officials demanded that we visit the construction site, and the visitors numbers increased as the construction went on. Emerson Pacific, the client for this project, decided to create a space where visitors can overview the construction site and the architectural model, while relaxing and having a cup of coffee. This was the beginning of the Ananti Box House.
After a number of discussions we’ve made the decision to build a structure that symbolizes Busan, the fifth biggest port, yet it is not too big and should be built quickly and easily using the dry construction method. It should be able to come apart, migrate, and reinstalled on various locations, and it should also be made with eco-friendly materials to be recycled afterwards. The terrace, which represents the concept of the resort and the hotel, should also be present on the Ananti Box House, in order to enjoy the ocean and sky prior to the completion of the complex.
To fulfill the complex condition, the decision was made to use fifteen containers, which symbolize the port of Busan. Various directions were applied in order to view the ocean differently. 2.4m (W)×6m (L)×2.5m (H) size containers were stacked up, but were also twisted.
The cantilever structure was calculated to hold wind and weight load, because the Box House is planned to be utilized as a reception area even after the opening of the complex and it needs to be moved three to four times due to the construction process, prefabricated hinges were developed and designed to connect each floors. The resting area, the model display area, the relaxing area to drink coffee or eat snacks, the spacious exterior deck, the kitchen, the restroom, the office space, and the storage spaces are composed in the structures. The attempt was to design a creative visitors’ centre by containing various actions inside the unique structure and form.
In a construction site, there is always a constant battle with time and physical limitations. This also makes a contrast with nature, which remotely stands in front of the passing time. Even as a temporary architecture, Ananti Box House attempts to symbolically deliver the future oriented attitude and the spirit of endless observation for new things of the resort and hotel.
SKM Architects가 설계한 아난티 펜트하우스 해운대와 힐튼 부산은 부산시가 관광 랜드마크를 조성하기 위해 개발하고 있는 ‘동부산 관광단지’의 핵심 숙박시설이다. 아난티 펜트하우스는 전체 객실이 107평(353m²)의 펜트하우스, 힐튼 부산은 특1급 호텔의 일반적 면적(8평, 26m²)의 2배가 넘는 17평(56m²) 이상의 스위트룸으로만 구성된다. 모든 객실을 계단식으로 구성해 넓은 야외 테라스에서 바다를 조망할 수 있는 특화된 평면으로 설계했다는 것이 특징이다.
총 연면적 5만 평에 달하는 리조트와 호텔을 2015년 초에 착공하고 얼마 지나지 않아서 현장을 방문하고 싶어하는 관계자들이 많아졌고, 공사가 진행됨에 따라 방문 수요는 점차 늘어났다. 건축주는 방문객들이 잠시 쉬면서 커피도 한 잔 할 수 있으며 전체적인 단지의 모형과 현장 공사 진행과정을 살펴보는 특별한 경험도 가능한 공간을 마련하고자 했다. 이것이 아난티 박스 하우스의 시작이다.
다양한 토론 끝에 얻은 결론은 세계 5위 무역항인 부산을 상징하지만 규모가 크지 않는 구조물로 건식공법으로 쉽고 빠르게 지을 수 있으면 좋겠다는 것이었다. 또한 현장의 공사가 진행됨에 따라 장소를 옮길 수 있도록 해체, 이동, 재설치가 수월해야 하며, 건물이 철거되었을 때 재활용이 가능한 친환경적 소재로 만들고자 했다. 리조트와 호텔의 콘셉트를 대표하는 테라스를 아난티 박스 하우스에도 만들어 바다와 하늘이 주는 쳔혜의 자연을 미리 즐길 수 있도록 했다.
까다로운 조건을 충족시키기 위하여 부산항을 상징하는 컨테이너 15개를 활용하기로 했다. 부산 바다를 색다르게 조망할 수 있도록 다양한 방향성을 설정하였다. 2.4m(W)×6m(L)×2.5m(H) 규격의 컨테이너가 코너 기둥의 모서리 맞춤으로 수직 적층되는 일반적인 방식을 탈피하여, 컨테이너를 대각선으로 틀었으며 강한 바람과 하중을 저항할 수 있어야 하는 캔틸레버 구조를 계산했다.
오픈 이후에도 이동 설치하여 접객시설로 활용할 계획이 있으며, 공사 기간 중에도 현장 진행 상황에 따라 3~4번의 해체와 이동 재설치가 필요하여 컨테이너 층간에 삽입되는 연결 부위에 조립식 힌지 방식의 디테일을 개발하여 설계하였다. 그 내부에는 방문자들의 휴식공간, 집중할 수 있는 모형 전시공간, 다과나 커피를 마실 수 있는 편안한 공간, 시원하고 넓은 야외 데크, 주방, 화장실, 사무공간, 창고 등을 구성했다. 특색 있는 구조와 형태 속에 다양한 행위를 담음으로써 창의적인 방문자 센터를 디자인하고자 했다.
시간의 제약과 물리적 한계를 극복하려는 치열한 공사 현장과 아름답고 세월의 흐름에 무심한 자연이 대비되는 이곳에 세워진 아난티 박스 하우스는 임시 건축물일지라도 리조트와 호텔의 도전적이고 미래지향적이며 새로운 것을 끊임없이 탐구하는 정신을 담아 상징적으로 전달하고자 했다.
